We value simple things because they do all the things we need them to, easily. Simplicity is harmonious. Even Leonardo de Vinci said, "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." This is one of the most profound quotes that I have come across that plays on the idea that being simple is sophisticated. Simplicity is defined as "the quality or condition of being easy to understand or do." This definition can give us immense insight into how we can implement and design simplicity into our own lives. Follow these five guidelines to implement simple sophistication into your own home decor design:

Declutter: There are benefits in the idea of living a simple life with less. Decluttering can relieve you of the responsibility to manage all of those things that you own. With less, you free up time that you may have been spending moving things around, trying to find more space to store them or even thinking about them and trying to decide if you keep them or get rid of them.

Choose one Large Statement Piece: When styling your space, you want to pick one item that becomes the focal point of the room. It could be one wall with a bold color that stands out, a DIY slat wall that makes a statement or even a floor to ceiling window that captures an amazing view. 

Choose Quality Pieces: When you have less, choose quality pieces and think of them as an investment. 

Add Mood Lighting: A simple, inexpensive way to add ambience to a room is to choose specific lighting. Make sure you place accent lights stratregically. Nobody want to feel like their in the spotlight. Also, choose a soft white bulb versus a white LED bulb to create a warm glow in the room. 

Keep It Clean: When a house is clean it can make it feel new. You know how it is, there's something about getting into clean sheets on a bed, making window washing the first item on your to do list in the Spring and having clean floors because if your floors aren't clean, the rest of the room feels unclean as well.
