Holiday Dough Bowl Decor
A dough bowl used to be one of the most cherished pieces in kitchens around the world. Not only was it used to make bread but often times plenty of memories as well.
A dough bowl provided a snug, warm place in which bread could rise prior to baking. I can just imagine the smell while I'm writing! The bowl was, often times, handed down through a family, passing along memories and the wealth of experiences that make a kitchen the heart of a home.
This once household staple has risen in popularity recently but not for its intended purpose. The dough bowl in homes today are a staple in an entirely different way; home decor being one of the most popular uses.
Enjoy our Dough Bowl Holiday Decor inspiration and follow our three step process in implementing your own this season:
Choosing your Bowl: The first, and probably the most important task is to choose your bowl. There are so many variations in size, color and even the finish of a dough bowl that it may seem overwhelming trying to choose just one. No worries, choose the one that fits your style, the size you would like for your specific occasion and you'll be surprised at how often you can find uses for it. You may even want to start a collection of dough bowls because they are so versatile and pretty just sitting on the counter gathering fruit.
Choosing your Bowls Function: There are so many different ways you can use a dough bowl for your home decor. One of the most popular is as a holiday centerpiece. Often times mini pumpkins, lemons and limes, pine cones and acorns make interesting, seasonal additions to your centerpiece bowl. Depending on the holiday, you may use pumpkins, gourds, oranges or apples which can be stacked and bring stunning color to your table.
NOTE: For the purpose of this tutorial we are using a smaller bowl that measures 6"x10"x2" and using holiday flora.
Gathering Supplies: Think outside the box when gathering supplies for a centerpiece that includes holiday flora. The first place you may want to look is in your very own backyard. Don't be afraid to snip a few sprigs from your evergreens, dried berries from the plum tree or even a few red branches from the dogwood shrub. Take some time and see what you can discover, you may surprise yourself.
Don't be afraid to buy some of those ready made sprigs at your local craft store and mix them in with the natural flora. Often times this allows you to add a little sparkle, glitz and glamour that epitomizes the holidays.
Have fun with your project and enjoy the process. It doesn't have to be complicated to make it beautiful. Make it a memory creating activity and pass on the fun of getting outside, exploring the great outdoors and discovering your own backyard ;)
